T8: Cell detection of mitotic figures in breast cancer H&E-stained WSIs

Objective: Accurately detect and localize mitotic figures by predicting their (x, y) coordinates within region-of-interest (ROI) cropouts from H&E-stained whole-slide images (WSIs) of triple-negative breast cancer.

Patient Population: Patients diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer who underwent surgery in three different hospitals. However, all tissue sections were cut, stained and scanned at the Radboudumc using a 3DHistech Pannoramic 250 Flash II scanner.

Imaging Data: Multi-resolution H&E-stained ROI cropouts extracted from WSIs. Each image is provided in .tif format at size 6250×6250 pixels with a resolution of 0.25 microns per pixel.

Reference Standard: The ground truth for Mitotic figure locations are validated using PHH3-stained immunohistochemistry slides. The Mitotic figures in the IHC slides are registered to the corresponding H&E images. The (x, y) coordinates of these annotations serve as the reference coordinates for each Mitotic figure.

Evaluation Metrics: The detection performance will be assessed using the F1-score based on the spatial match between predicted and reference mitotic figure coordinates.
